Re “Global warming may well flip the House” (Oct. 13):
The article discussed how Republican residents in the 48th District, including Newport Beach’s Balboa Island, have experienced rising oceans first-hand, which could change their traditional voting allegiance.
Former Republican Harley Rouda advocates curbing carbon emissions, while Dana Rohrabacher claims man-made climate change is a farce, perpetuated by liberal scientists to centralize power in the hands of the government. Any theory that 97 percent of climate scientists are activist liberal conspirators is preposterous.
A Republican Party official in the same district said: “China is still polluting like crazy” … “so why would Americans tighten our belts” and “live a lesser life when it’s not going to have an impact?”
Not true. China has already met a major Paris Accord promise some 12 years early, while Trump took the U.S. unilaterally out of Paris and promised to maintain America First in the world as the per capita leader of greenhouse gas contributions.
